On May 31, 2012 a smoking ban for all city parks and recreational properties comes into effect. This includes Edwards Memorial Park in Woodburn. One of the goals of this ban is to protecting the health and safety of the community, especially children.

The by-law prohibits smoking in the following areas:

  • parks
  • playgrounds
  • recreation centre property
  • arena and stadium property
  • sports or playing fields
  • skateboard parks
  • beaches
  • outdoor pools
  • leash-free dog parks
