Ontario tryouts for Cal Ripken 12U Canadian Championships

Try-outs continue for the Ontario team that will be participating in the 2013 Canadian Cal Ripken Baseball 12U Major 70 Championships in Surrey, British Columbia.

Tryout dates are:

Sunday May 26
Sunday June 2
Sunday June 9

11am – 1pm at Collegiate School, 40 Collegiate Ave in Stoney Creek. The baseball diamond is at the rear of Fiesta Mall on Highway 8 near Gray Rd.

Players ages 12U (as of April 30, 2013) will be able to participate.

There is no charge for the tryouts. Players should attend as many of the dates as possible.

Buffalo Bisons Youth Baseball Day

Sunday, June 23 is Buffalo Bisons Youth Baseball Day at Coca-Cola Field.

The Toronto Blue Jays Triple-A affiliate will be playing the Durham Bulls, Triple-A affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays.

Tickets are only C$8 each for all Ontario Cal Ripken players and families. Wear your team uniform, and go on the field to meet the Buffalo Bison players!

2013 Coaches Meeting

A meeting for all 2013 coaches/assistant coaches will take place on:

Saturday, May 11
Minor/Major T-Ball 1:00 – 1:30 pm
Minor Ball 1:45 – 2:15 pm

(The Rookie Ball meeting will be held at Evaluation Camp on April 28.)

If you have volunteered to coach or assist, your division convener will be in touch with you by phone or email.

The meeting will take place in the parking lot of Edwards Memorial Park.

Please make every effort to attend this meeting if you have volunteered to coach. It will cover important information for the upcoming season.

Minor Ball Opening Day Exhibition Game

Minor Ball (ages 11-13) will have opening day on Sunday May 26 at 6:30pm at the ballpark.

Uniforms will be handed out, and a practice/exhibition game will take place between the teams.

2013 T-Ball Opening Day on Saturday, May 25

This year’s T-Ball Opening Day will be Saturday, May 25 at the ballpark. The players will meet their coaches and teammates, do a little practice and receive their jerseys.

Minor T-Ball: 10:30am – 12pm
Major T-Ball: 12:30pm – 2pm

Now that registration is finished, our convenors are busy organizing the teams. Players’ families will be contacted by their team coach before opening day.

Rookie Ball Evaluation Camp

In order to select the teams for the Rookie Ball division as fairly as possible, all registered players are encouraged to attend the evaluation camp.

All players will be graded on their ability to catch, hit and throw. Please show up ready to play ball with water bottle, glove, hat and appropriate running / baseball shoes.

Date: Sunday April 28, 2013
Time: 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM (Please be there ready to play by 12:45 PM, at the latest.)
Place: Edwards Memorial Park (a.k.a. Woodburn T-Ball Park).

Please note:
ONLY the Coaches children AND player siblings will be selected to the same team. All other players will be selected to their respective teams based on their skill level. This is done solely to make the teams as fair as possible.

Sorry, there are NO EXCEPTIONS to this rule.

All teams will play on the same day, at the same time and at the same location.

Late March Update

While it seems winter won’t give up this year, we are looking forward to our 6th season of Binbrook Baseball. There has been a lot of work going on behind the scenes, and we’re looking forward to a great season.

Our new system for online registrations has been working very well, and the Minor T-Ball division is almost full. The other divisions are also filling up fast.

Our final in-person registration day will take place Saturday, March 23, between 9-11am at the Glanbrook Arena.

As a reminder, we have a registration cut-off date this year of April 15.

Once registration closes, we will be giving the list of players to our volunteer division convenors. They will determine the teams, and prepare a schedule. Once they’re ready, the schedules will be posted on the web site.

We’re also putting out the call now for volunteers to take on Executive roles in 2014 to keep the league running. If you want to know what’s involved, and have time to help, we’d be happy to discuss it with you. A new Executive will be elected at the Annual General Meeting in October/November.
